Barbara Stein, Executive Producing Director
Co-founded Actors’ Playhouse with her husband Dr. Lawrence E. Stein in 1988. Under her stewardship, Actors’ Playhouse has grown into the largest self-producing not-for-profit professional Equity Theatre in Miami-Dade County, a Florida Cultural Presenting Organization, and one of 13 Miami-Dade County major cultural organizations. Barbara Stein was instrumental in creating the role model private public partnership with the City of Coral Gables to renovate and restore the historic Miracle Theatre, on Miracle Mile, into a three-stage performing arts facility in an eight million dollar project. The re-birth of the Miracle Theatre, which was implemented and funded by Actors’ Playhouse, was the catalyst in the revitalization of the downtown district in 1995. Ms. Stein is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and is an active member and leader in many community organizations including Trustee Member of both the Coral Gables and the Greater Miami Chambers of Commerce. She has written, produced and directed a series of educational plays for children and is proud of initiating the children’s educational programming at Actors’ Playhouse with the National Children’s Theatre Festival celebrating its 17th year and the Young Talent Big Dreams county-wide talent contest for youth ages 8-17.
